FAMOUS PHOTOS

This is a PowerPoint presentation for a speaking activity with a number of internationally famous photos. When they are first displayed, the photo has no caption. The students are to look at the photos and make guesses using as much vocabulary as possible to describe what they see. Then the teacher reveals the title of the photo and can start a further discussion.

PENPALS

This term you are going to learn to write friendly letters and to make it real, we will start by writing an introduction letter to a pen pal. But first, let's read different tips which can help you write a wonderful interesting letter to your new friend.

WRITING THE FIRST LETTER TO A PEN PAL

The first letter can be as long or as short as you like, but you probably don't want to make it too daunting for your new friend to read - so perhaps 2-3 small sheets of paper, or 1 big sheet, like an A4 size. Besides, it's nice to keep some news and random facts for your next letter.
Here are some ideas:
  • Start with an introduction of yourself and also introduce your immediate family too.
  • Tell your pen pal about where you live, what the area is like and even how the weather is at the moment.
  • Let's talk craft! Let your new friend know what creative interests and hobbies you have, perhaps what your favourite one is at the moment and what project/s you're working on.
  • What does your average day look like - pick a week day or a day on the weekend to talk about.
  • Ask questions! because this gives your new friend some things to reply to when they write back.
  • Tell your pen pal what else you really enjoy doing in your spare time (that's not a hobby) - I like drinking tea, borrowing cook books from the library and watching movies with my family. What are some things you really love doing.

you can also have a look at these documents with some more tips....

Here you can watch very interesting videos with tips for your letters.

When writing the first letter to a pen pal, include personal information, such as name, age and interesting hobbies. In addition, learn what questions to ask a mystery pen pal to start communicating with them in this free video from a professional writer

LOVE SONGS

Love songs are popular all over the world, and everyone has their favourites. In this unit, now that St Valentine's Day is near, we will work with your favourite love songs in English and we will see that we can learn a lot from them.

Here you can listen to one of the best in my opinion. It was composed for the film Shreck 2 by the band called Counting Crows. I hope you also like it!!

ACCIDENTALLY IN LOVE

AND NOW IT'S YOUR TURN....
The class will be divided into groups of four students. Each group has to present and analyse a love song to the class. Remember you must bring a copy of the lyrics for the classmates, comment on the new vocabulary and give your opinion saying why you have chosen that song. You can also talk about the singer or the band. Finally, and this is important, you must bring one or two activities to be used in class. You will have to make sure your classmates learn a lot with your presentations because in the end, everybody will have to take a test about all the songs presented in class.
If you want to have a look at some possible activities to prepare your lesson, visit thislink where you will find dozens.

REMEMBER YOUR SUMMARIES ALWAYS BEFORE THE TESTS

You know you MUST hand out a complete summary of every unit before the test and "complete" means you have to include every new aspect you want to learn in the unit (vocabulary, grammar, writing tips, etc...). Also, it would be great if you included all the questions explained by the teacher which are not present in the textbook but which have been dealt with in class. You can follow this structure or you can innovate using  goconqr, for example.
VOCABULARY (unit, reading texts, new words studied in class or which appear in the activities).
USE OF ENGLISH (grammatical aspects studied in the unit with examples and translations).
SPEAKING (list of questions and different possible answers studied in the unit in the "speaking" part)
WRITING (writing tips,  connectors and structure of the type of  composition studied in the unit).
